Department for Transport announced a further extension of the Ukrainian vehicle registration scheme.
This announcement extends the length of time that those in the UK granted visas under the Ukrainian visa schemes can use their Ukrainian-plated vehicles in the UK to three years, before they are required to pay Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) and register their vehicles.
It applies only to personally imported vehicles with Ukrainian number plates, including:
· motorcycles
· cars weighing up to 3,500kg

The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 came into effect on 7th July 2023. The new regulation provides that individuals who have entry clearance or permission to stay under the Ukraine Schemes (Ukraine Family Scheme, Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme, and Ukraine Extension Scheme), and are holders of licences issued in Ukraine authorising the driving of a vehicle of a class included in category A (motorcycle) and category B (car), are authorised to drive such vehicles on their Ukrainian driving licence in Great Britain for up to three years after becoming resident.
